Linda’s corner?! :S

October 30, 2009

The past month, I started a habit of listening to some music in the morning whilst preparing for school .. it wakes me up :P

My iPod died on Suday last week .. so who’s saving the day? 99.7 ..

.. well are they?

I mean have u heard that program in the morning? i guess its called Linda’s corner or something similar

The presenter/ DJ has an annoying voice .. is so lame .. and doesnt know how to behave on the radio!

And the dedications .. mostly from kids .. dedications from classes, schools and even buses :P

Then in the middle of the so called show i hear the movement of her chair :S

Compared to Marina FM’s Diwaniya show which i listen to on the way back from school .. its a laugh!

so who do we blame? the ministry? the producer? Linda?

Or do i just fix my ipod asap and forget i even listened to the radio? :P

Blog Action Day: Finale

October 15, 2009

header-title

This is my final BAD’09 post for the day ..

i would like to thank the lead organiser Robin Beck for his hard work .. looking forward to participating next year! ;)

so as a finale .. id like to share with u 10 things that will disappear if  we dont take action against climate change ..

  1. Say Goodbye to French Wines
Wacky temperatures and rain cycles brought on by global warming are threatening something very important: Wine. Scientists believe global warming will “shift viticultural regions toward the poles, cooler coastal zones and higher elevations.” What that means in regular language: Get ready to say bye-bye to French Bordeaux and hello to British champagne.
  2. Say Goodbye to Baseball
The future of the ash tree—from which all baseball bats are made—is in danger of disappearing, thanks to a combination of killer beetles and global warming. (dont comment below telling me there are metal bats :P )
  3. Say Goodbye to French Fries
Scientists from the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research say warmer temperatures are killing off wild relatives of potato and peanut plants, “threatening a valuable source of genes necessary to help these food crops fight pests and drought.”
  4. More Bear Attacks
Earlier this year, Moscow warned its citizens to beware of brown bear attacks. In Russia, it’s been too hot in the winter for bears to sleep. When bears can’t hibernate, they get very grouchy and become “unusually aggressive.”
  5. More Stray Kitties
Global warming has extended the cat-breeding season beyond spring, which is the usual time for a kitten boom. The kittens are often homeless and end up in animal shelters. And remember, “The trouble with a kitten is that/ Eventually it becomes a cat.”
  6. Say Goodbye to Ski Vacations
Slopes on the East Coast last year closed months ahead of time due to warmer weather, some losing as much as a third of their season.
  7. Say Goodbye to Salmon Dinners
Get ready for a lot more chicken dinners: Wild pacific salmon have already vanished from 40 percent of their traditional habitats in the Northwest and the NRDC warns warmer temperatures are going to erase 41 percent of their habitat by 2090.
  8. Say Goodbye to Your Pretty Lawn
Thanks to global warming, dandelions will grow “taller, lusher, and more resilient.” By 2100, the weed will produce 32 percent more seeds and longer hairs, which allow them to spread further in the wind.
  9. More Malaria in Africa
“A WHO report in 2000 found that warming had caused malaria to spread from three districts in western Kenya to 13 and led to epidemics of the disease in Rwanda and Tanzania.”
  10. Greenland’s Melting
Greenland is melting at a rate of 52 cubic miles per year—much faster than once predicted. If Greenland’s entire 2.5 million cubic kilometers of ice were to melt, it would lead to a global sea level rise of 7.2 meters, or more than 23 feet.

so let’s all work towrads a safer and enviromental friendly world!! (or else u wont be offered fries with ur big mac ;P)

Blog Action Day: Global Warming

October 15, 2009

GHG-by-Gas

My second post for the day will be on Global Warming ..

i know all of u know about this .. so i dont want to bore u with all the scientific details and stuff .. but i would like to share this link with u ..

http://www.kids-vs-global-warming.com

this website was started by a 14 yr old boy ..

Alec, 14 years old, is a Freshman at El Camino High School, in Ventura California.

He founded Kids vs Global Warming when he was 12 years old after watching Al Gore’s movie, “an inconvenient truth.”  Feeling the weight of the global situation and a sense that he could make a difference, Alec felt compelled to tell other kids about the problems we are facing.  His message is deeply rooted in hope, encouraging kids to speak up and let their voices be heard on this issue.

Alec created a presentation made specifically for youth, full of videos, animation, easy-to-understand science, and compelling motivation for kids K-college ages.  He gave over 30 global warming presentations before being invited by Al Gore to be formally trained with the Climate  Project in October of 2008.  He is now the youngest trained presenter with The Climate Project.

So if a 14 yr old kid can take action about global warming .. why cant u?

Some of the ways u can reduce global warming: (taken from that site)

  • ride the bike instead of ur car (in kuwait this can only be done in the winter)
  • invest in alternative energy
  • start recycling!
  • stop using plastic bottles
  • hang ur clothes to dry outside .. driers take up a lot of energy (and u can show off ur colourful underwear :P )
  • stop using the norml light bulbs .. whats wrong with the LEDs or compact fluorescent bulbs?
  • plant trees and plants to reduce the carbon dioxide levels

many of these can easily be done .. so for the sake of mother nature .. lets try to do them! ;)

Hopenhagen is a movement, a moment and a chance at a new beginning. Movie Review: Cloudy with a chance of meat balls

September 24, 2009

just come back from the movie .. wil review shortly .. a summary would be .. a family movie with a hint of comedy ..

.. review comming soon :D

.. REVIEW..

2009_cloudy_with_a_chance_of_meatballs_wallpaper_001

Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs is the story of Flint Lockwood (Bill Hader) an inventor who has yet to invent a successful invention. All this changes when his invention that goes haywire at a big event in the island town of Chew and Swallow causes it to rain any kind of food that a person could think of. This also brings weather girl Sam Sparks (Anna Farris) to Chew and Swallow to cover the raining food. We also are treated to great voice performances from the following people: James Caan as the father and voice reason to Flint, Mr. T as the town’s only policeman and Bruce Campbell in an hilarious role as the town’s mayor. As the food begins to fall the story becomes a tiny bit predictable but the writing is brilliant with lots of bits that tie up nicely by the end of the film and the ending I related to somewhat and nearly had a tear in my eye because of it.

Animation wise Cloudy is amazing and I really think it’ll help in giving it a shot to “Upset” “Up!” this year at the academy awards. I’ve read in a couple other reviews that the 3D version of Cloudy is even more amazing animation wise so if you have a theater with 3D projection defiantly check out Cloudy in 3D.

All in all I have to say I enjoyed Cloudy a lot and while I didn’t give it a full 10 out of 10 or 4 out of 4 stars on IMDb.Com and FlimCrave.com I still think that it has a really good chance to upset Pixar’s run of Academy Awards for best animated film based mainly on two simple facts: Great story with lots of brilliantly written bits and amazing animation that I look forward to watching on Blu-Ray when it’s released. Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs a very filling movie appetite wise.

Book Review: The Lost Symbol

September 24, 2009

The Lost Symbol

In this stunning follow-up to the global phenomenon The Da Vinci Code, Dan Brown demonstrates once again why he is the world’s most popular thriller writer. The Lost Symbol is a masterstroke of storytelling—a deadly race through a real-world labyrinth of codes, secrets, and unseen truths . . . all under the watchful eye of Brown’s most terrifying villain to date. Set within the hidden chambers, tunnels, and temples of Washington, D.C., The Lost Symbol accelerates through a startling landscape toward an unthinkable finale.

As the story opens, Harvard symbologist Robert Langdon is summoned unexpectedly to deliver an evening lecture in the U.S. Capitol Building. Within minutes of his arrival, however, the night takes a bizarre turn. A disturbing object —artfully encoded with five symbols—is discovered in the Capitol Building. Langdon recognizes the object as an ancient invitation . . . one meant to usher its recipient into a long-lost world of esoteric wisdom.

When Langdon’s beloved mentor, Peter Solomon—a prominent Mason and philanthropist —is brutally kidnapped, Langdon realizes his only hope of saving Peter is to accept this mystical invitation and follow wherever it leads him. Langdon is instantly plunged into a clandestine world of Masonic secrets, hidden history, and never-before-seen locations—all of which seem to be dragging him toward a single, inconceivable truth.

As the world discovered in The Da Vinci Code and Angels & Demons, Dan Brown’s novels are brilliant tapestries of veiled histories, arcane symbols, and enigmatic codes. In this new novel, he again challenges readers with an intelligent, lightning-paced story that offers surprises at every turn. The Lost Symbol is exactly what Brown’s fans have been waiting for . . . his most thrilling novel yet.

Review: Play: The Love Street ‘Shari3 il 7ub’

September 23, 2009

I was invited by family members to watch this kuwaiti comedy play .. i said why not if its followed by dinner cause im not the theatre kind of guy ..

Now like everything and anything in Kuwait .. its late .. started aprox. 30 minutes late ..

So with pockts full of rowntrie’s fruit pastels brought back from my recent trip to the UK i enter the theatre .. no comment!

The play starts with the theme song for the play .. u may have heard it on tv .. and some youngsters dancing around .. weird intro in my opinion ..

Overall .. its a good play .. funny? ya maybe .. cause they make fun of many ramadn ads and people .. story? ya .. kind of weird tho .. a man gets married to a women in a police station when originally the girl wanted to complain to the police man about him ..

.. the marriage ofcourse is not successful due to not much money .. so a loan is to be taken from a bank .. thats apparantley a kuwaiti habba .. nearly all people have loans .. like BlackBerries .. speaking of which are these now called BehBehs??!! =o

from BBs to BehBehs? huge change! The play had maybe 5 minutes allocated to BBs .. this confirms its a habba =P

Back to the play .. the husband takes the loan from the bank .. who have a weird employee that likes throwing himself on his desk =S The employee convinces the husband that 20′000 KD is not enoug and that 10′000 more is good .. and ofcourse whats the interest to be taken for the 30′000 KD? over 90′000 KD !!

The moeny for the loan is used to open a cafe .. the husband now a cafe owner spends the rest of his money on travel trips with friends ..

The cafe collapses after an old man envies the whole thing .. so now the husband is broke .. he goes back home .. argues with his wife .. wants to slap her .. she leaves home .. they decide to meet in the Love Street .. the place where they officially met .. THE END

now u have the story no need to waste 3 hours of ur life and go see it .. hope u enjoyed .. and sorry for being too long .. u can see how i rushed throught he ending :P
